The greatest gift God gave to man is Jesus! "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son..." Have you accepted the gift of God? It is a season of love and so many people emphasize on visiting and sharing with the less privilege and orphans. Everyone is trying to reach out and give out something which makes the season joyful and unique! But without having or accepting the gift of God, you will be missing out no matter what you do in this season to demonstrate love.
To accept the gift of God is to accept God himself and the bible says God is love. So, if you have Jesus, you have God and that means you have love! "...because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost..." Love is much more than an act of kindness whether in a season like this or on a regular basis. So, no matter what you do for others in this season without accepting the gift of God it is not love because it has no root in God who is love!
Look at what the bible says "...And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing..." That means you can possibly give to the poor without loving them. Much of the giving in this season is more like a custom which is not bad but the point is that if you have not accepted the love of God in Christ Jesus, you simply don't know what it means to love despite your giving to the poor.
Love is not limited to a season neither is it just an act of giving to the poor. See what the bible says about love "...Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil..." Apart from giving in a special season such as Christmas, if you have the love of God in you, you will be patient with others, you will celebrate and appreciate people instead of envying them.
Most of these less privilege and poor persons that enjoy the sympathy of others in this season and get gifts are taken advantage of and oppressed every other day because the love of God is absent. Even, so many persons give in this season so as to boast about it and this is not an attribute of love. Most persons never think about the poor nor less privilege every other day even when they are in position to help them they don't because they have nothing to gain in return.
How can you possibly be self-centered through out the year except Christmas? The same attitude you tolerate from the people of your class and status is the reason why you punish, intimidate and oppress the poor around you but now because it's Christmas everyone is so concerned about the poor. The truth is that the nature of man is too cruel to love, man actually lacks the ability to love but with Jesus in your heart, the love of God is shed abroad in your heart and you will not just try to demonstrate love in this season but you will love every day!
Like apostle Paul prayed for the Ephesian church, it is my prayer this morning "That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love. May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God..." It's easier to love when you know the love of God!
Merry Christmas and a happy new year in advance!
