"And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do." This was a total surrender! At this point in time, Saul (later called Paul) gave up his will that the will of God will prevail in his life. He did not stop at addressing him as Lord but he went further to demand for his will!
He willingly forsook his own agenda and plans and embraced the will and plan of God for his life. Not just the good and acceptable will of God but his perfect will. The scriptures testify that apostle Paul was a man dead to his own will but alive to the will of God! "For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!"
"Lord what wilt thou have me to do?" Is not just a question nor an issue of instruction and obedience rather, beyond that it is the compass you need to navigate through life. At the end of the day Paul was able to say "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith..." Simply because he made God's will his compass!
It is not enough to run around for the accomplishment of our dreams and ambitions without God's direction. "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." Often times, we tell God what to do and how to do it, what we want and when we want it, we just want him to bless all we do and plan to do without asking if it is what he really wants for us.
Meanwhile, whether we believe it or not, whether we like it or not we are created for him and not ourselves. "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created." When we live in accordance with the will of God for us, our lives bring glory to him. I pray your life will bring glory to God in Jesus name, Anen! Happy Sunday!
